Penny Black Birches – Using Seasonal Stamps in Nonseasonal Ways

Hey there! I’m here making a card ON MY OWN, not for anyone’s release, not for my own, and not a card I had to make for a family member! When does that happen anymore? This time, I decided to go through my backlog of stamps that I’ve bought and not used, and I grabbed Penny Black Birches, a stamp I bought from their fall/Christmas release.

You see, I’ve been trying to not order too much right now since finances have been a bit tight. I want to get the most out of stuff I already have, and it occurred to me that some of you might also be in a similar situation. The fun thing is that stamps that you buy for holidays or seasons can usually be adapted to use in a nonseasonal way. The image, Penny Black Birches, is meant for winter, maybe Valentine’s Day, but I think it’s a great stamp that can be adapted for many occasions. Lookie:

GOJUS! This is a very clean and simple card! I stamped with the new Ranger Distress Hickory Smoke ink pad to start, then grabbed some Copic markers and colored over top. I darkened some areas and added yellow/red and yellow green notes. I added leaves where none existed, but this stamp works great for that! I also used a white gel pen to make the bark look more realistic.

I masked off the tree trunks and sponged some soft sky color behind them using Wendy Vecchi’s Make Art Garden Patina ink. Then I stamped a sentiment over top from Penny Black Words of Kindness. I then die cut the whole thing out with Hero Arts Rectangle Infinity dies and mounted it on a card front. Who would have thunk 5 years ago that I would be doing clean and simple cards like these, but Penny Black’s stamps really don’t need a lot of layering or embellishments to create GOJUS cards!

I’ll probably continue doing this with other stamps for a while, so stay tuned for more!

Below is my list of products that I used, and I have used compensated affiliate links where they were available, as I now participate in affiliate programs for Simon Says Stamp, Amazon, Ellen Hutson LLC, Scrapbook.com, Gina K, Hallmark Scrapbook, My Favorite Things, Sizzix, and Blick Art Supplies.

Enjoy! Ta!
