I’ve used three of my new stamps today, all with watercolors.
The first stamp I used was the new Wreath Sled stamp. Lookie:
I used Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolors after stamping with Versafine Onyx Black ink. I created this stamp, remembering the fun I had sledding as a child. We had a sled similar to this (I confess I preferred a plastic saucer), and I remember taking it to the big hills on Ravine Road behind St. Martin’s Episcopal in Kalamazoo and going down Boot Hill with it (so named because there was a bump at the bottom like the toe of a boot). Somewhere in the archives of the Kalamazoo Gazette, there is a picture of me waiting to take a turn down the hill.
I wanted a snowy frosty look, so I did a bit of spattering in the background too. I painted the edge on the outside of the frame blue to make it look like it was matted without the bulk.
The next stamp I used is Christmas Cactus.
For this card, I switched to Peerless Watercolors because they are more transparent and just a bit brighter, and they react with water better than the Kuretake Gansai Tambi’s. For this stamp, I wanted a different image that was still Christmas, but that was different than the usual poinsettias, fir trees, etc. I thought about it, but I could not remember ever seeing a stamp of a Christmas cactus, so that’s what I decided to do. They are a lot of fun to draw!
I added a little white gel pen in the stamens . I love the bright colors!
For my last card, I used Poinsettia Frame.
I used the Peerless Watercolors again on this image, and also used a stamp from TJ’s Simple Sentiments 1 set. To make this different than the usual, I took a leaf out of Georgia O’Keefe’s book and zoomed in on the poinsettia so it fills the whole card.
I also added some Sakura Gelly Roll to the pistils and clear Wink of Stella on top plus along the veins of the leaves for some sparkle.
I love the results! I design my stamps to be watercolor friendly, but these can definitely be used with all kinds of media. Stay tuned this week for my other stamps!
