Fab Friday 111 – Penny Black Rendezvous

Fab Friday 111 – Penny Black Rendezvous
Welcome back to the Fab Friday challenge over at the Fab Friday Challenge Blog!

This week we have a sketch challenge:

I knew this sketch would be great for a big stamp in the background, and I chose one that I have had for a while and not used (you must be thinking I have a huge backlog of unused stamps! Well, it's not huge. Sizeable maybe!) Lookie:

GOJUS! I used a combination of Distress inks and Distress Oxide inks to create the background and stamped the tree using Versafine Onyx. Once I had created the background, I tried a variety of things to create the larger vertical bar, but it covered up too much of the tree. Then I got the idea of creating another background, stamping the image again, and trimming it down so that the bar lined up with the background image, creating a visual bar that let the image still show. This made me think of sadness in the midst of beauty so I decided this would be a sympathy card.

I borrowed this sentiment from Penny Black's set, Soar, embossing it in white EP on black card stock. This was a bit too long, so I just made the sentiment element smaller so that more of the tree showed. I also decided on using some blue vellum to create the other vertical bar and another shade of vellum to extend the horizontal element a little farther and also reinforce the sadness element. The baker's twine was added to create a visual horizon line.

Isn't that background GOJUS?!?!

I popped the background up on fun foam over a mat of black card stock over a white card base to help the colors pop. All that was needed was a couple of tiny blue rhinestones to help anchor the visual triangle and add a bit of shine.

So beautiful!

Below is my list of products that I used, and I have used compensated affiliate links where they were available, as I now participate in affiliate programs for Simon Says Stamp, Amazon, Ellen Hutson LLC, Scrapbook.com, Gina K, Sizzix, and Blick Art Supplies. Buying through these links costs you nothing extra and helps support my blog and my artistic endeavors, and I thank you.

  • Jan, I really love this card. The colours you used really caught my eye. Beautiful and sad all at the same time.
