Avery Elle – Viking

Avery Elle – Viking

When I saw this new stamp set from Avery Elle, I just HAD to have it. It's just so so cute, and once I got it, it was a matter of how to make it work on a card.

I wanted the little Viking to be in a setting appropriate to his manliness and his way of life. That had to be on a Viking ship. But how to create one? Well, I got busy and this was the result:

STINKIN' CUTE!!! (YILM!) This card wold be suitable for a Valentine or just a nice card to let someone know how much you love them. To create the ship, I looked at a lot of photographs of Viking ships first. A lot of them had really elaborate carved figures on the prow, but I felt that would detract from Mr. Viking, so I picked a simpler curled design. I drew the prow of the ship out freehand on SU! Soft Suede cardstock, which was really the best brown I could come up with for the ship. I then traced it again on another piece of the same color. I then started cutting the second piece in strips to create the boards of the ship. I brushed the edges of the strips with Distress Ground Espresso ink with a Distress blending tool. I cut out a piece of Audrey Blue cardstock from Simon Says Stamp using the new Stitched Whorl die, and cut parts of the die on the stitched lines so that I could insert the boat into the waves.

I cut part of the paper away at the top to make a horizon line. This I layered over a piece of Sea Glass cardstock, and floated a little cloud I cut out with one of the clouds from the Taylored Expressions Cloud Duo that I've had FOREVER. Well, maybe not forever. But a long time, anyway.

I stamped Mr. Viking and his little hearts on Neenah White and heat embossed it quickly with clear embossing powder. I colored him with Distress markers. I then cut all of these out using my PixScan sheet and the Silhouette and adhered them on top of my background.

I popped the whole thing up on heavy-weight Solar White and added these little enamel dots from Doodlebug Designs.

Below is my list of products that I used, and I have used affiliate links where they are available, as I now participate in affiliate programs for Simon Says Stamp, Amazon, Ellen Hutson LLC, Scrapbook.com, and Blick Art Supplies. Buying through these links doesn't cost you a dime, but by doing so you help me support my blog and my artistic endeavors, and I thank you. Stampin' Up! links lead to their website, and all you need to do is select the demonstrator of your choice when ordering.

Enjoy! Ta!
