Altenew – Beautiful Lady

Altenew – Beautiful Lady

I was thrilled when I won a gift certificate to the Altenew shop on Instagram in November. I chose this set when I redeemed it, and I've been staring at it ever since trying to think of the best way to use it.

I decided on watercolor and decided to borrow a color palette from an artist I follow on Instagram, Tracy Lewis. I love the cool blue and purple shadows she uses in her paintings, and the light that suffuses them.

One of the things I found out when I first tried doing this is that the hybrid ink cubes from Simon Says Stamp are waterproof, and so they are perfect for watercolor. I used the Wisteria hybrid ink cube from the Spring set. I started out using some shimmer paints I had bought, but they just got muddy when I tried to blend them, and after trashing 3 watercolor postcards in the attempt, I set it aside until New Year's Eve, when I grabbed the new set of Loew Cornell Simply Art watercolor cakes I had bought myself for Christmas. I am happy to say they worked much better, and so I was very happy with the results. Lookie:

GOJUS! (YILM!) I tried to figure out what kind of flowers these are…thought they might be hydrangeas, but with all the stamens in the center and the leaves being more pointy, I didn't think so.

I originally was going to leave the background white, but decided to lay in a couple of light washes, and I think it really makes the whole piece.

I did add a little ring of white gel pen around the flower centers to help them stand out.

I lined up all these stamps on a block, then pulled the word "beautiful" off, stamped the rest in Simon Says Stamp new Intense Black bad, then stamped the word "beautiful" with the Hollyhock cube from the Spring Simon Says Stamp hybrid ink cube set.

And a couple of rhinestones are the perfect finishing touch.

Below is my list of products that I used, and I have used affiliate links where they are available, as I now participate in affiliate programs for Simon Says Stamp, Amazon, Ellen Hutson LLC,, and Blick Art Supplies. Buying through these links doesn't cost you a dime, but by doing so you help me support my blog and my artistic endeavors, and I thank you. Stampin' Up! links lead to their website, and all you need to do is select the demonstrator of your choice when ordering.

Enjoy! Ta!
