I am in love….
With the new stuff in the Preview brochure that SU! just posted! I can feel the psychic resonance just OOOZING out of my computer screen and making it’s way STRAIGHT into my veins! I feel like I’m glowing in the dark (it is dark here…no sun today!) with all the resonance and I’m vibrating so fast you can’t even see it, like a hummingbird! I can’t wait to get this new stuff…but I’m gonna have to! Can’t order until June 1st! Can you say, "EXPEDITE"? I knew you could.
Will I order it all? Well, maybe not ALL of it. A good part of it, say, maybe 1/2, no…2/3s…well…perhaps 3/4’s of it…er…let me get back to ya on that, okay?
ANYWAY, with all this love in the air, surely there is room for a little self love. And I’m full of that too (hey! no comments on what else I may be full of…this is MY blog, okay?!?)
Here is an example of what I call "Dream Colors". What happens to me when I lay me down to sleep, after I say my prayers, is that I start getting color combinations and sometimes card layouts, flashing through my brain. Sometimes I remember them and sometimes I don’t. Sometimes they are sparked by something I’ve seen during the day, sometimes not.
In this case, I had the fuzzy vision of something like what I ended up creating. It isn’t exactly like it…there is still more to work out. But there was paisley involved and the color combination was there, so I forged ahead. Here it is:
Think tapestry…already in my head I’m hearing Harrison Ford shouting, "Where are the tapestries?!"
Ingredients: Stamps: Touch of Nature, Paisley, Happy Everything; Ink: Basic Brown, Chocolate Chip, Taken with Teal, More Mustard, Old Olive, Basic Black; Cardstock: Old Olive, Chocolate Chip, Very Vanilla, More Mustard, Taken with Teal; Accessories: Word Window Punch, Stampin’ Sponge wedges, dimensionals, gold brads, black gingham ribbon, 7/8" gold organdy (retired), aquapainter, gold "jewel".
Originally, I tried doing the background with Versamark and pastels and it just did not look like I wanted it to…I needed that deep brown and I was not getting a deep enough brown with Poppin’ Pastels. So I moved to stamping in Chocolate Chip and sponging color on top. I think it looks GOJUS (yes, self-love is oozing out like a caramel out of a Cadbury bar, isn’t it?)
Then I had to decide which set to use this marvelous background with. I like Petals and Paisley, but it just does not go with the paisley background. Of the paltry number of sets I have left that are not going to retire (a large majority of which are monograms, backgrounds, alphabets, and word stamps) is Touch of Nature, which seemed to be the one I needed to use. I fiddled with the flower a long time getting it to look just right. I painted with the ink pads and aquapainters, left it for a while, looked at it again and decided it needed deeper color, so I used a Taken with Teal marker around the edges and blended the color in with the aquapainter. Then I got up this morning and decided that the background behind the flower really needed to have more color than just the sponged edge, so I painted on some More Mustard and Old Olive and was finally satisfied. Only to realize that the skinny little black gingham ribbon that I had dyed with Old Olive needed some support, so I added the wide gold organdy and SHAZAMM!!! It was finally done.
I am not done with this color combination…seems to me there is more to be said, but I am very happy with this card.
Okay, onto other stuff…are you wondering what I got for Mother’s Day? Besides the usual kid projects I get from my children: the "box of love" that is standard in our school’s second grade classes (this will be the second one I’ve received) and the flower with petals that fold out with different messages on them (may have to make a card idea out of that!), I went to Scrappy Chic and generously volunteered to buy my present so that my DH and poor children would not be put to the trouble. I am SO nice! (Yes, I love myself!)
Here’s what I got:
More snap stamps and a 7 Gypsies self-inking stamp (plus some different colored ink pads to put in it). Did you know that Karen Foster is going to be discontinuing snap stamps?!?!? I’m totally bummed and shocked because Chris at Scrappy Chic has a hard time keeping them in stock. If you want Karen Foster to keep these stamps, email them here: support@ karenfosterdesign.com
Plus I got these Making Memories Polo Button brads in all these colors (I put them in old Vintage Brad containers). Here’s what they look like up close:
I just thought they were so stinkin’ cute I had to have ’em!
This is from Chatterbox…and the paisley caught my eye…okay, I admit it…I am a Paisley Addict. But I don’t want a twelve step program, thank you very much. So what if I’m addicted to a design, which, when you look at it, reminds one very much of sperm, but life has to start somehow, doesn’t it? I think so. It’s pretty and I like it. So there.
And in other news, I finally got my embellishments back on the wall; I have invested in many Stamp Stack ‘n Stores and had attached them to the paneling in the basement with the provided foam strips. But that stuff does not hold up well in a basement due to the humidity, so some of them fell off. So I had to screw them into the wall. I’m calling it "Embellishment West"…looks like a condominium complex for embellishments, doesn’t it?
And I think it’s quite obvious that I have to buy another unit to fill that blank spot on the lower right, don’t you? And if I do that, surely I must buy more embellishments to put into it. It’s only logical.
